JDC was contracted to selectively demolish a three-story section of the former Dowling Medical Building, circa 1934. This section of building that was sandwiched between a ten story 1934 section and a six story circa 1990 medical building. Both buildings had to remain as an active medical facility without any disruption or interference from the demolition project. Due to the location and high sensitivity of the project, a High Reach excavator was used to perform the demolition work.

The demolished structure was separated by hand prior to the mechanical phase of the demolition work. The very difficult and sensitive hand separation and structural demolition work was completed in a timely manner for the client with little to no disruption to the medical facility’s main ambulance entrance and their day-to-day operations.

JDC was also contracted to dismantle the iconic yellow utility tube over Albany Street at Boston Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.   The utility tube which extended 35’ in height over one of the busiest streets in Boston carried steam and condensate lines from the central utility plant to the hospital.  JDC utilize large cranes to hoist and lower the extremely large sections of the existing pipe bridge down to ground level where they were placed on large remote controlled flat beds called Golhoffers.  The sections which spanned over 80 FT were successfully transported through the streets of Boston to an offsite laydown area where they were dismantled by hydraulic excavators equipment with shear attachments.  JDC was responsible for all planning, engineering, traffic management, safety and overall coordination between Suffolk Construction and Boston Medical Center.  All dismantling work was performed  in  non-stopped 48 hour operation within the confines of the active hospital campus including active emergency room.
