Ames Street Garage
JDC was contracted by John Moriarty Associates and Boston Properties to perform the complete demolition of a portion of an existing five story concrete framed parking garage to facilitate the construction of a future high rise development. The demolition scope included required engineering, protection of a mechanical room scheduled to remain, saw-cutting, shoring and separation of the 30,000 SF parking garage structure from the remaining garage structure to remain. Challenges to this project included working around the adjacent parking garage which was kept active throughout the demolition, working adjacent to an active Google off building, working around the busy City Streets of the densely populated Cambridge, Massachusetts, and working around and active utility relocation project in the adjacent streets. This demolition was performed by mechanical means utilizing a specialty high reach demolition excavator with concrete processor attachment and smaller excavators equipped with a variety of demolition attachments.
