JDC was contracted to dismantle and remove three former No. 6 fuel storage tanks. The largest of the three tanks was 1.7 million gallon capacity with a height of 45+ feet and a diameter of 120 feet. Other contract work included excavation and disposal of over 5,200 tons of petroleum impacted soils beneath the footprint of the tanks.
This work created a pathway for a new by-pass haul road from South Boston’s shipping terminal located on Castle Island to Summer Street in Boston. This new road eliminated trucking traffic from the residential streets adjacent to the plant.
