Hendries Ice Cream Cold Storage Building

Client: Connelly Construction
Status: Completed
Value: $500K - $1M
Location: Milton, MA

JDC was contracted by Connelly Construction to perform the complete demolition of the Former Hendrie’s Ice Cream Cold Storage Building in Milton, Massachusetts which remained vacant in the middle of downtown Milton for over a decade. The scope of work included the complete demolition of the existing three story, 60,000 SF steel and wood framed structure including associates slabs and foundations.

JDC worked closely with Connelly Construction and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation authority to plan and safely execute this scope of work. Because of the building proximately to a Green Line train stop and MBTA lines, the outer 50’ feet of the building was demolished over a five day planned diversion period where the train lines and supporting electrical equipment were shut down.   The outer column bays and exterior walls, some as tall as 40-60’, along the MBTA Right of Way were successfully dismantled by JDC’s two high reach demolition excavators during the diversion.  The MBTA was able to open normal operation before the earlier than originally scheduled.
JDC’s other scope of work for the project include installation of overhead pedestrian protection, protection of the MBTA train tracks, installation of protection over the adjacent train station, asbestos abatement and underground storage removal.
