Logan Airport Terminal E Renovations
JDC was contracted by Suffolk Construction as one of their specialty trades for their high profile Terminal E Renovations and Enhancements Project at Boston International Logan Airport. Terminal E is where Logan Airports International flights arrive and depart.
All of JDC personnel had to be badged by Customs and Border Protection and follow the most strict security procedures in the whole airport. The scope of work included complete building separation and full demolition of the former Gate Pier 8 in order to make way and a connection point for new “Crescent” Section. This new Terminal section will accommodate the Airbus A380 Group Aircraft- the world’s largest passenger jet. JDC also safely and with zero incidents completely gutted over 150,000 square feet of the terminal along with clearing out several mechanical rooms and escalator removals.
The challenges of the project were shoring, required engineering, and removing two overhead pedestrian bridges that were suspended over existing escalators that had to remain intact after demolition was complete. All of the shoring and dismantling was pre-engineered pre-approved by the MPA and Suffolk. All of JDC’s work was performed successfully, incident free and completed on time for Suffolk Constructions extremely tight schedule and adhered to MPA’s most stringent safety/security procedures.
