Edens South Bay
JDC was contracted through the Lee Kennedy Company to perform the complete demolition of three existing buildings located within the active Southbay retail complex in Boston, Massachusetts. The scope of work included asbestos abatement, preparation of work plans for DEP submission, and total demolition of a former two story 50,000 SF steel framed supermarket building, a one story block and steel framed 30,000 SF warehouse structure, and of two story steel framed office building. Challenges to this project consisted of removal of asbestos containing roof materials by bulk loading method, removal of heavy concrete foundations, and working within the active retail complex and adjacent residential development. All structures were dismantled by mechanical means utilizing three hydraulic excavations fitted with specialty demolition attachement such as grapples, pulverizers, shears, and hydraulic hammers.
