Large Manufacturing Facility
JDC Demolition and its sister company, NewRoads Environmental, partnered with a large manufacturing company to be part of the team for their multi-phased facility upgrades to their Indianapolis, IN location. JDC/NRE’s scope included multi-phased abatement of the existing 2M SF of building, PCB remediation, sandblasting, decontamination of process lines and equipment, and installation of temporary partitions all over a 6-year period while plant operations were ongoing. Upon completion of the abatement scope, JDC Demolition demolished over 1.5 million SF of the facility which included demolition of the main manufacturing plant (Plant 8), removal of the concrete test cells, removal of the existing on-site power generation plan, removal of the wastewater treatment plan, removal of fuel arbors, cooling tower demolition, and removal of above ground storage tanks. JDC successfully removed over 50,000 CY of concrete generated from the demolition, processed, crushed on site, and reused the material as backfill on site. Challenges to project included demolition of buildings while plant operations where ongoing on other parts of the site, working around live utilities, and removal of the concrete test cells with reinforced concrete walls over 3 FT in thickness while adjacent to on-going plan operations.
